A hidden gem in the heart of Soho’s eccentric Frith Street, is London’s favourite Moroccan and Spanish restaurant, El Cantara.
Cantara meaning “The Bridge” or “The Arch” to some has been exhumed from North Africa and placed amongst the bustling atmosphere of Soho.
The restaurant is spread across three floors, each giving you a taste of Morocco and Spain. Why not watch live belly dancing two nights a week (or upon request) or listen to live music on Sunday nights with Leonardo Di Lorenzo, playing Segovia.
Exclusive venue hire is available with entertainment including belly dancing, musicians and flamenco dancers.
The Ground floor houses a grand array of Spanish tapestry from the paintings, the lights and even the Spanish guitar hung on the wall. With large wooden beams running across the ceiling and Latin lounge music in the background the atmosphere will transport you to Andalusia. If you fancy soaking up the sun, why not sit outside with a jug of Sangria and take in all the goings on of Soho, whilst celeb spotting.
Our first and second floors is luminescent of Arabic themes, with the use of dark reds and black, minutes turn to hours as you soak up the atmosphere and sip a full bodied red wine. These rooms are suitable for large parties and private bookings if you fancy being miles away from prying eyes complete with your own private waiter or waitress.
Sample well prepared food from newly appointed ex-Hilton and Mamounia Chef, Nour-Eddine Khouyi, who’s typical starters include; stuffed baby peppers, mussel shells stuffed with crab, baby squid stuffed with rice and saffron and char grilled peppers with garlic and olive oil. Main courses feature the must-try Paella Valenciana, steamed fluffy cous-cous and a selection of char-grilled meat marinated for 48 hours in parsley and olive oil. Or why not try our famous Tagines and a large selection of vegetarian-friendly dishes.
Inventive and decadent desserts include date pudding, Moroccan baklawa, ice creams and chocolate fondant made to be drunk with fresh Moroccan mint tea. After dinner sample a flavoured water (Shisha) pipe mixed with tobacco and fruit.
El Cantara’s bar staff mix up contemporary cocktails and sangria, together with a lengthy catalogue of premium spirits. Complementing your food is a strong but succinct wine list, encompassing a range of strong reds from Rioja and smooth whites from North Africa.
A firm favourite for Christmas events with Christmas lunch available from £17.95 per person and Christmas dinner from £24.95 per person.
Open daily from Midday until 1am.
